What to Expect

At your first visit to Nelson Orthodontics, Dr. Nelson will perform both clinical and x-ray examinations.

Upon your arrival, you will be greeted by our front office staff. They will assist you in getting checked in and will notify our patient coordinator that you have arrived. Our patient coordinator will escort you to one of our consultation rooms for your first visit with Dr. Nelson.

On your first visit, our objective is to evaluate your long-term orthodontic needs. At this visit, one of three outcomes will be determined:

  • Treatment is needed now and the anticipated length of that treatment
  • Treatment will be needed, but the timing is such that it should be delayed until appropriate growth, tooth eruption, or other factors are monitored and reconciled
  • Treatment is not needed at all
For your first visit, please take time to complete the patient information form, which is available on this web site for electronic submission to our office. By completing this form prior to your arrival, we can begin your first visit without delay. If you prefer to complete this paperwork in the office at the time of your appointment, please be sure to arrive at least 20 minutes before your scheduled appointment time.

Also, be aware of whether your insurance coverage includes orthodontic treatment. If you have orthodontic coverage, please bring the needed paperwork so that we may assist you in getting your orthodontic benefits. Prior to your visit, please contact your insurance company and ask the following questions:
  • Do I have orthodontic coverage?
  • What are my benefits?
  • What are the benefit limitations? (For example, age of patient, previous treatment, dollar limits, etc.)
  • Is a pre-treatment estimate required?
  • Does the insurance company pay automatically?
